Unity is a cross-platform game engine developed by Unity Technologies and is used by a large number of developers to build and power their real-time applications.
You will work as a research intern under the supervision of the Unity Labs team located in Grenoble, France. Your mission is to design and explore a novel GPU-based rendering technique. This year, we offer two possible topics for exploration. The first topic consists in designing a novel virtual texturing method for rendering very large and detailed terrains. The second focuses on optimizing an existing parallel implementation of Catmull-Clark subdivision by leveraging GPU shared memory. Encouraging results may lead to an academic publication and/or international communication, which is the main focus of the Unity Labs Grenoble team (you can access our full list of publications here: https://unity.com/labs/publications).
Applications will be reviewed after 15th of October 2021, so we recommend you submit your application by this date at the latest.
What you’ll be doing
- Read and survey scientific articles
- Get familiar with GPU hardware and programming
- Explore and discover new mathematical models
- Craft and optimize parallel algorithms
What we’re looking for
- This work is suitable for master-level students as part of their training (a master thesis is expected). Important: we expect a project portfolio with your application
- GPU Programming (e.g OpenGL, GLSL)
- Strong background in Mathematics
