The Opportunity

As a graphics engineer on the terrain team, you will be involved in the development of Unity’s terrain technology, with particular focus on mobile devices. The work will include R&D, performance optimization, improving user workflow, and helping instruct users on the best way to use the code you've written.

Your code will be used to render all things 'outside' - ground, dirt, trees, flowers, grass, pebbles, boulders, and possibly things like clouds and water as well.

This is an excellent time to join the team as we will be building the mobile terrain renderer that developers will use for the next decade or more - shaping Unity's future!

What you'll be doing

  • Developing the new terrain rendering systems for mobile platforms.
  • Collaborating with your colleagues in design to build the best user experience.
  • Working out and sharing recommended practices to help our users get the most performant, good-looking terrain possible.
  • Supporting and maintaining the existing terrain system in Unity.

What we're looking for

  • Capable of developing and debugging code written in a large multithreaded C# or C++ codebase, using a multi-platform engine (e.g. Unity, Unreal, in-house).
  • Experience with graphics programming and shaders.
  • The ability to proactively work collaboratively with others, listen to feedback, and share ideas - both in your team and across the company.
  • A real desire to make life better for our users!
  • 3+years experience with games, visual effects, or some other realtime 3d role.

You might also have

  • Previous mobile graphics experience.
  • Experience working with the Unity game engine.
